    Barrabés - Engagement background

    Barrabés wishes to collaborate in the DBE project because our experience & background fit perfectly with the purpose of the project. During the past five years, we have been promoting the use of Information Technology (IT) in the SME. Our goal is to have the SME realise the advantages of IT and to integrate them in their business processes. Barrabés experience in integrating IT into our own business process has allowed us to obtain a high degree of knowledge in the Information Society. This enabled us to gain competitive advantage and increase our business yields. And for this reason, Barrabés has become a leading example nationally and internationally for the advantages that IT has to offer in SMEs. Barrabes uses its own success model to show other SMEs that want to follow in our footsteps, how technology can be used for each specific business need, and make SMEs more productive and efficient, while at the same time enabling them to access new markets, and therefore achieve greater competitive advantage. Additionally, Barrabés has worked with public administrations to establish and develop public projects that promote information technologies for SMEs and acts as an intermediary for information between the recipient of the actions and the administration. Through our participation in private, public and regional programmes of promotion and development of IT for SMEs, Barrabés has coordinated the tasks of giant multinationals with large hierarchies. This has been done without loosing our character or integrity as an SME.

    DBS - Engagement background

    About 4 years ago, we extended our solutions to provide the wholesaler who had our management software with tools to allow B2B and B2C transactions. Thus we developed web applications to allow clients and customers of wholesales interact with the wholesaler. The application we called Webmin was orientated to Travel Agencies to allow them make touristic reservations in the wholesaler through the Internet.

    DBS - Business value

    This application helps Travel Agencies carry out business with its providers, the wholesalers, without telephonic contact.

    DBS, rapidly understood the DBE concepts and the value they could obtain from it in the short term and in the long term. In each of their customers there is information of thousand of hotels. When the travel agencies want to access to some information or to make reservations, they have to enter in a web page and obtain some information (codes) they have to copy in their applications. DBS has integrated their application with travel agency applications so that, the travel agency applications automatically store the required data without any manual intervention.

    From the Travel agency perspective, it was very interesting to be able to be able to access on-line information and to make on-line reservations of rural hotels. This kind of hotel are normally family run and it normally requires quite a lot of time to make the reservation from the travel agency, because all of the communication must be done normally by telephone and when the telephone rings in the rural hotel, then, there is not always someone to answer the phone. Therefore, the travel agency uses a lot of resources to have a small income. This is why the ‘on-line’ integration is also particularly interesting for travel agencies.

    From the rural hotel perspective, it is also very interesting to integrate their applications with the DBE because they receive additional reservations with little effort. And since the communication is at level 5 and once they switch on the application and they are connected, they do not have to do anything else to start receiving reservations even from travel agencies that they have never heard of before (no UDDI is needed).

    Obviously, they could have done most of the previous integration using other technologies, such as web services, but once they have this integration done using the DBE, they will be able to take advantage of the advanced features, such as, communication at level 5 (not level 3), a distributed database which make the applications more robust, semantic features, discovering of new hotels and rural hotels without using UDDI, … just because they have connected the DBE. They are also participating in a European Project and learning about the new and future SW engineering concepts.

    While they work with the DBE they can think of new features to apply to their business, for example, using the discovering feature. At the moment, one of the parameters of the hotel concept is the GPS position of the hotel, whereby one user of the travel agency could ask for a hotel compliant with a certain set of characteristics and within a shorter distance of R meters or kilometers to a concrete GPS point.

    Gabilos SW - Overview

    Gábilos Software S.L. originates from a consultancy company with 20 years of experience in the market. Gabilos is located in Sabiñánigo, next to The Pyrenees of Huesca. Sabiñánigo is a town with businesses, industries and is, in general, a centre of services of the region ‘Comarca del Alto Gállego’.

    We apply and use the meaning of our name ‘Gábilos’ (spirit, energies to start a new business) to our main target: the development of management software programs.
