Some ideas and comments on the current stage of the DBE
Well, we're into the final year of the first DBE, the project is nearly over. Four years or so of project work, countless meetings all over Europe, a lot of fun, sometimes quite big troubles, which we resolved and stayed friends throughout.

Though the official project is in its final phase (due to end in October 2006) a large group within the project team is committed to carry on through what we are calling the DBE Foundation.

The DBE Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation that will take care of the DBE assets, support the DBE Community and make key decisions about the DBE through an elected body. Our intention is to set up the DBE Foundation to run in parallel to the project during the last six months, to ensure a degree of stability for the Foundation before the project ends.

More about this later - and your comments and input are welcome.

By the way, I am the project coordinator and one of the DBE Project Management Executive Board.

Day before the external review

Posted by js at 2006-01-16 12:21
It's Monday 16th January in Tampere, Finland where the DBE project review is taking place this week. First thing that is very noticeable is that it is much warmer here than we expected, no snow in Helsinki when we landed and temperature around zero degrees centigrade! We'd expected 10 to 20 minus degrees.
The temperature within the project team is also pretty high, quite a lot of tension. Hitting one of the downtown Tampere bars at 3 am, a mixture of heavy rockers, good draft beer was a great way to relax, but not if you have to get up at 7.00 the next morning having lost 2 hours of the night through the shifted time zone..
